Heard it on the Mountain
Description:
Appalachian Outreach, Inc. is a charitable organization that provides everything from household goods to food, clothing and hygiene products with the goal of easing the burden of poverty.
Update:
The South Wheeling location of Appalachian Outreach, located at 3900 Wood Street, holds Hidden Treasures thrift store which is “designed to help our neighbors in need and the local community.” Here, you can find an array of gently used clothing, glassware, shoes, clothing and furniture.
Check out Hidden Treasures on the second and fourth Thursday for at least 50% off on all clothing items. You can also find regular deals by checking out AOI Wood Street on Facebook.
“Each and every day, new treasures are brought to our store by the community, so we can bless others and pay it forward,” said Executive Director Melissa Marco.
For other needs, community members can work with the Wheeling Housing Authority, the Department of Health and Human Resources and the Family Resource Network to fill out a voucher. From there, Appalachian Outreach will work to provide the items you need free of charge.
"By donating to Appalachian Outreach, you can literally help hundreds of people in need throughout our local community. Donations, whether small or large, help us to fill the vouchers or purchase items for those in need. The need in the community is overwhelming, but by working collaboratively with other nonprofits we work to ensure basic needs are met. We are all one event away from being someone who might need assistance" Marco said.
If you would like to donate items to the store, or shop for a treasure, the store is open Tuesday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
